Printing and Branding Options for Woven Packaging

Industrial packaging has to communicate clearly while surviving filling, stacking and transport. The printing method should be chosen according to the artwork, bag construction and expected handling conditions.

Direct printing on woven fabric

Flexographic printing can apply logos, product names and handling information directly to woven polypropylene. It is efficient for clear designs with a controlled number of colors. Because the fabric has a visible weave, very small text and fine gradients may not reproduce as sharply as they would on a smooth film.

Printing on laminated film

For detailed retail-style graphics, a printed film can be laminated to the woven substrate. This creates a smoother surface and allows more complex images, finer details and stronger color presentation. The film, ink and lamination structure should be matched to the filling and transport environment.

Design for the actual bag

Artwork should account for seams, gussets, handles, valve areas and the way the filled bag changes shape. Keep critical logos, instructions and barcodes away from folds and stitched edges. Front, back and side panels should be clearly identified in the artwork file.

Color expectations

Printed color can be influenced by the substrate, coating and lighting. A color reference helps communicate the target, but exact appearance should be approved using a production-relevant proof or sample. Screen displays alone are not a reliable print standard.

Barcodes and variable information

Barcode size, contrast and quiet zones need to be protected from seams and distortion. Test scanning on a filled bag, not only on a flat proof. Batch codes and other variable information may require a separate printing step after the main artwork is produced.

Artwork checklist

  • Vector logo files and outlined fonts
  • Defined print colors and color references
  • Front, back and side-panel layout
  • Legal text, product information and handling marks
  • Barcode type, final size and test requirement
  • Approved bag dimensions and printable area

Approve before full production

Confirm artwork, color, position and bag construction together. A printed sample or controlled first-production approval can prevent misunderstandings that are difficult to correct after a full run.
